“Founder’s DAY”…ignored in Wixom!

There are founders’ days, and then, there is the real thing, a genuine real “Founders Day.” It is called the Fourth of July or Independence Day!

Here in Northridge, high above the valley of the make believe, we are celebrating the real thing, the Fourth of July, Independence Day; the day recognized by the world as when a new country was genuinely formed.

On a day that must be Celebrated, Wixom’s Administration demonstrated that July 4th is of no particular importance: insignificance and passive observation are the hallmark of what has continued to diminish some aspects of the community.

Many remember a community that once had an abundance of residents’ participation and interaction on this day. Celebrations in the park and fireworks displays where activities that acknowledged the true Founder’s Day. It was our Founding Father’s exuberance and ours that embraced this day with an understanding of the true meaning of Independence for the country and for the people. A new bright light shown on a new country.

The only light that was shining in the vacant downtown was the blinking caution light at the community complex; the City Sign proclaiming brightly that you could get you bread and other items at the renowned Farmer’s Market and, oh yes, City Hall would be closed Monday, Independence Day.

No mention of the holiday; no thought given to or recognition of a true Founder’s Day! Sadly, we have become a community with leadership that is passive and incapable of even the slightest acknowledgement of the significance of the day.

It would have taken too much trouble to define a budget that incorporates a true holiday and community celebration. In its place, we have established a local culture of Farmers Market, music in the park, and craftily carried most of the costs on the backs of the taxpayers; …even increasing resident’s millage! Less now costs more.

New equipment for whatever is the theme. Four-day workweeks and long-holidays are in the offering for the Administration while many residents are without jobs and benefits.

Surrounding communities have continued with their Independence Day celebrations and many residents set off fire works displays to light the night and recognize what our leaders do not: Founder’s Day is significant and important. Residents too understand what our Founders did for the country and for what we enjoy today because of their efforts.

It is not that fireworks are that important; it is the significance of recognizing the day for what it truly represents, a day when a writing was drafted and adopted igniting Freedom for people in a new country and brought liberty to all of us. It is for all of us to give safe harbor to that tremendous accomplishment

When we refuse to recognize the significance of such a day, we demonstrate that Freedom is insignificant, and the day is just like any other day. Hopefully, the day will never come when we are told that we cannot demonstrate or celebrate our freedoms. To ignore such a day is a travesty of the highest magnitude and displays the carelessness with which we value what has been so costly paid for in blood and tears by our Founding Fathers…and the families of those who lived during those somber days.

Have we transitioned from an Administrations that once had character and metamorphosed into passive indifference that extols self-preservation over community interests? Residents’ hope not!

At dusk, the residents did not forget the significance of the day; fireworks shown brightly in the sky and thunderbolts sounded throughout the night.

The view from Northridge acknowledged that our residents do have character and have not forgotten when freedom took its first breath establishing a new country.
