South Carolina is bristling in the Republican primary as the candidates compete for the number one position and the Presidential nod. Like the chameleons that they are, the candidates say what the people want to hear and actually ignore their individual records’ as candidates; perhaps Ron Paul being the exception; the question of their moral integrity comes out in the national press and on the news, but here in the South there is an abnormal quiet as to how some candidates illicit affairs will play out until the election is over.
The television broadcasts are filled with candidates disparaging adds and the smut has filled the airways. The super pacts are in place and have their advantage. I believe PACK influence is noticeable as a candidate is bounced about like a ball thrown from wall to wall, and it is difficult to determine where the candidate will eventually end up: top, bottom or out!
One has to give the Newter his due: he is knowledgeable, skillful, experienced, and could be a very
contentious man. He is a shoot for the hip candidate. Romney is too slippery for his own good not wanting to show how much money he is really worth trying as he may not to be seen as the elitist that he is. This poor-boy who grew up in a wealthy environment has yet to understand his own life’s position. He needs to admit to having a silver spoon in his mouth, to having made a lot of money. This does not make him a bad guy, but an individual that does not understand his place within the society in which he functions is a disoriented individual. How can Romney understand the man-on-the-streets-position when he does not know himself or his own place in society?
Texas Rep. Ron Paul would be a strong candidate if he would back down from from some of his distorted positions that are extreme. Some of these ideas about dissolving departments would have some merit if put them into a different context and re-framing his political objections for these departments. Radical changes are unacceptable to the public but fact based changes made for reasonable and on a factual supported bases would win public opinion.
Finally there is a strong candidate in Mr. Santorum. He is strong, intelligent, knowledgeable, not afraid of a political fight and has demonstrated that he can give it as well as take it. Of all the candidates Mr. Santorum displays some integrity and authenticity for the Republican nomination for the position of President.
However, in the game of money talks, bullshit walks, the big money pacs have yet to adopt or fully support Mr. Santorum. He does not have the backing or the quid-pro-quo corporate obligations that the Newter has over the years developed, nor the money that Mr Romney has. Therefore, the Newter may win and the need for the rebuke of the Supreme Court’s decision of CITIZENS UNITED v . FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION is ever the more needed by the voters of this country. And the sooner the rebuke the better. Our Democracy depends on it or, Pacs and their Corporate sponsors will have bought the Country and we can do little about it but go to political war.
To quote Justice Stevens, “The Court operates with a sledge hammer rather than a scalpel when it strikes down one of Congress’ most significant efforts to regulate the role that corporations and unions play in electoral politics. It compounds the offense by implicitly striking down a great many state laws as well.”
